##As part of my work around student accommodation and welfare, I helped run a housing survey to better understand students’ experiences, concerns and challenges around accommodation.
We received around 800 responses, giving us valuable insight into what students were experiencing and what they wanted to see improved.
The survey was also a way of encouraging students to have their voices heard. Housing can have a huge impact on a student’s finances, wellbeing and overall university experience, so it was important to understand these experiences directly from students themselves.
To encourage participation, we also offered a month’s rent as a prize to one lucky student selected from the responses. This helped us reach more students while giving something meaningful back to the student community.
The project gave me valuable experience in student engagement, gathering feedback, understanding student needs and using real student voices to inform conversations around accommodation.
Most importantly, it reminded me that good representation starts with asking people what they actually experience — and then making sure their answers are heard.
