Welcome Week 2026
I was part of the Welcome Week 2026 Working Group at the University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union, helping shape the experience for thousands of students.
As student leaders representing around 20,000 students, our focus was not just on organising events, but on making students feel welcomed, connected and part of the university community from day one.
I was involved in engaging with sponsors and external partners, helping them connect with students while also making sure students knew about the support, opportunities and services available to them.
We also held regular events throughout the year, inviting student societies and different student communities to take part and have a space to represent themselves. This gave students the opportunity to share their culture, interests and ideas while connecting with others.
For me, the most important part was creating a genuine sense of belonging. Starting university can be exciting but also overwhelming, especially for students who are new to the city or country. I wanted students to feel that they had a community around them and that their voice mattered.
The project strengthened my experience in student engagement, partnership building, communication, teamwork and event planning, while teaching me that creating opportunities for people to be seen, heard and included can make a real difference.
